The Joshua Foundation is based in Tanzania, East Africa. Eastern and Central Africa are amongst the world's most needy areas and Tanzania officially rates as the third poorest country on earth, despite enormous natural resources.
TANZANIA
Tanzania alone has over one hundred and twenty tribes (more than in any other African nation). With large animist sectors in a population of 40 million, the land is still heavily influenced by traditional African religions and cultural practices. Following independence in 1961, Tanzania has enjoyed genuine peace, making it a great launching pad for African missionaries and teams into the rest of the continent... and beyond!
ARUSHA
Joshua activities are based in ARUSHA, centre of Cape-to-Cairo. Described by former US President Bill Clinton as the "Geneva of Africa", it's one of the fastest growing cities in the developing world.
EN GEDI
Sited approximately 12 kilometres (7 miles) south of Arusha, the Joshua HQ of 31 acres straddles the Kijenge and Themi Rivers in a high semi-arid environment. Mount Meru supplies the necessary water from nearby, and Mount Kilimanjaro soars skyward on the horizon.
The Joshua base, En Gedi is named after the En Gedi in Israel and in numerous ways, summarises what we're all about. Many describe our En Gedi base as an “oasis” – a place of refreshment.
